SEMINAR ON THE TOPIC; “THE BUSINESS OF BEING AN AUTHOR”

This is to bring you greetings from Uganda Textbook Academic and Non-Fiction Authors Association (UTANA).

UTANA’s mission is to “promote the rights of academic and non-fiction authors through advocating for the recognition of their works and protection of their rights, products and services in collaboration and cooperation with all stakeholders in the book value chain”.

As part of its earlier planned activities, UTANA has organized a seminar on the theme; The Business of being an Author: Authors Recovery Strategy for Post Covid19 scheduled for Friday, 26^th November 2021 from 11:00am to 1:30pm at Silver Springs Hotel Bugolobi.

The seminar is meant to expose Ugandan Authors on the global trends and developments in authorship and provide strategic direction for mitigating the challenges caused by COVID-19

THEME: THE BUSINESS OF BEING AN AUTHOR: ACHIEVEMENTS AND THE FUTURE

The Uganda Textbook Academic and Non-Fiction Authors Association (UTANA) is organizing to celebrate 10 years of existence since its establishment in 2013. The following activities have been arranged to commemorate the 10^th anniversary celebrations:

Young Writers’ Competition: The young writers’ competition is open to all young persons aged 18 years and below who are willing to showcase their best written piece of work. Those interested in participating in this competition should submit an abstract of not more than 300 words together with a copy of the said written work to either [email protected] OR physically to UTANA Office (Teachers House, Plot 28/30 Bombo Road, Office Room 208) during office hours from 8:00am – 5:00pm latest 31^st December 2023. The winners of this competition will be announced during the award giving ceremony that will be held during the UTANA Symposium on15^th February 2024.

Author exposition: An outstanding author(s) shall be selected to expose his/her works during the UTANA Symposium. Interested authors to expose their works are invited to submit their personal profiles and books to be exposed to [email protected].

Writers-Authors Investment Talk and Get-together: UTANA in collaboration with Writers-Authors Investment Club (WAIC) [An Investment Arm of UTANA] has arranged an Authors’ Investors Get Together scheduled for Friday 15 December 2023 from 9:00 AM – 5:00PM at Ibamba Restaurant next to the Uganda Museum. Each participant shall be required to pay 50,000/= to cover meals, refreshments and other expenses involved in organizing this event. The events include, live writing experiences, Writers-Authors investment Club meeting and a motivational talk. All payments for the Writers-Authors Investment Talk and Get-together should be made to 0709799030/ 0760377960.

Satellite meetings: There are a number of satellite meetings organized for special categories of audiences: Some of the planned activities shall include: Meetings of special interest groups and UTANA Chapter Meeting in a selected region.

A symposium: There shall be a two day Hybrid Symposium on 14^th to 15^th February 2024 on the theme: “THE BUSINESS OF BEING AN AUTHOR: ACHIEVEMENTS AND THE FUTURE. Interested presenters on the above theme should submit an abstract of at most 500 words and their bio details to [email protected] by 31^st December 2023. The symposium shall be consolidated with the General Assembly on 15^th February 2024. The agenda shall be communicated as provided by the constitution. Participants for the AGM should be paid up members (membership and subscription) up to date for at least 3 years.
